Every week when I go into my local comic shop I see the huge manga section at the back and wonder if there's anything in there I would like.
Anyone here read manga and have any suggestions? What would be a good starting point for a complete beginner?

I read a few of the more popular titles, like Naruto.
The first manga I ever read was Death Note, however, which I think is a really excellent series and an easy one for most people to get into.

It's just the one series. It's 12 volumes and a handbook (which isn't needed), so it's the only complete manga I've read at the moment, but I really do recommend it. It's a supernatural crime thriller that keeps you guessing all the way to the end.

Huge manga fan here Top recommendations would be. Ongoing Manga: One Piece - 67 volumes currently available Attack on Titan - 5 Volumes available A Certain Scientific Railgun - 7 Volumes available Blue Exorcist - 9 Volumes available Naruto - 61 Volumes available Fairy Tail - 27 Volumes available Complete Manga: Fullmetal Alchemist - 27 Volumes Dragon Ball / Z - 16 Volumes (Dragon Ball) / 26 Volumes (Dragon Ball Z) Yu Yu Hakusho - 19 Volumes Rurouni Kenshin - 28 Volumes Bakuman - 20 Volumes Inuyasha - 56 Volumes Best manga of all time imo is One Piece. Bakuman is by the same author/artist as Death Note If you want more mature themed books then Hellsing, Black Lagoon, Berserk and Gantz are the most popular ones I know of that are in english.

Oh yes, manga, I like me some manga.
Currently getting:
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya The Misfortune of Kyon an Koizumi The Disappearence of Nagato Yuki Chan Soul Eater Soul Eater NOT! Negima (in omnibus form) Attack on Titan Kimi ni Todoke Yotsubato! Tegami Bachi Puella Magi Madoka Magica Kanokon Gantz Cardcaptor Sakura (just got the final omnibus volume)
There's many more I';ve tried and gone off though. I can't stand Bleach and One Peice though. They start off great but then become the same tired old story over and over again so I'd avoid them.

Have read the first volume of Death Note and loved it. Will definitely continue with it as long as I enjoy it.
Might try Blue Exorcist next.
