Amazing Spider-man writer Dan Slott is leaving the book. I have mixed feelings about this - he had some great ideas, although sometimes the executions and conclusions felt a bit rushed. I do look forward to seeing how he concludes his run, and who takes over the book though.

I'm a big fan so excited to see how he wraps his run up, but it's a shame we'll have to lose him. He's moving over to Iron Man next and Nick Spencer is rumoured to be on Amazing Spider-Man.

A couple of years ago, I would have been ecstatic to hear this news, now, I'm impartial to it, much like his run. I wish he had left after Secret Wars ended, since the rest of the Marvel staff changed things up (mostly). Slott has written some truly atrocious issues of the series that have portrayed Peter and members of his supporting cast in terrible, uncharacteristic ways. The whole Parker Industries is baffling to me, in that they rid us of the marriage because it made Peter unrelatable but then made him a worldwide, successful billionaire that really was not right for Spider-Man. Other than that, nothing he's done has been outstanding but merely good or average. Spider-Verse was fun but Volume 4 has been a mess of complex and overly long stories, I can barely remember any of Clone Conspiracy or the arc before that? I'm not excited to read a Spider-Man comic anymore and I don't know if that's my (still youthful) age catching up with me or just his work distancing me from the book.
Slott's online persona has lowered my opinion of him. If you critique the book, he takes it extremely personal and will go out of his way to bait and argue with fans. Sometimes, people's criticisms are far, far too harsh but he's got to ignore these or deal with the remarks in a professional manner. The way he said in interviews, in full hyperbole, "I will be on this book forever" makes me wonder if the decision to leave was entirely his own.
Like I said, I'm impartial. I will be glad to get new blood on the book, considering he's been on it for just over ten years at this point. I would be quite content to see Nick Spencer write the book as I've enjoyed his Captain America run, though I know Secret Empire was not the most critically praised event. I'm optimistic and will be looking forward to the announcement of a new writer soon. Slott had a very mixed run, one that was overlong and certainly outstayed its welcome.

Some good points Alex - I enjoyed the Parker Industries direction, although looking back I now think it may have been more suited to an alternative universe book, similar to "Renew your vows", rather then set in the main 616 universe. Also agree with how characters behaviours are sometimes out of character.

Looks like the speculation about Nick Spencer taking over Amazing Spider-man is correct: www.cbr.com/amazing-spider-man-spencer-ottley-marvel-fresh-start/With Ryan Ottley taking over as the artist - I like his artwork so looking forward to seeing him on Spider-man. While many didn't enjoy Secret Empire or Hydra Captain America, I am looking forward to seeing what Nick Spencer brings to the title!
