The first of the new CEs is released today with Amazing Spider-Man replacing Astonishing and starting off with the Hunted storyline!
Got my copy today - anyone else brought the first issue? Any thoughts - either on the new CE or the Hunted storyline? 😀
It's great to have the CEs back!

I won't be getting it as I'm already up to date on Nick Spencer's run (read #62 yesterday funnily enough), but I'm thrilled that the title is back. I read Hunted 2 years ago and enjoyed it, it's an interesting idea that uses all the "animal" supervillains well

I read Hunted back when it came out. I like this story a lot. It's a fun follow up to Kraven's last Hunt.
Speaking of catching up, I still got to get around to #61/62.

I understand this skips issue 16? so assuming this is printing 17 and 18?

Yes that's right - 17 and 18. From what I gather 16 was basically a Kraven solo story, so they may have decided not to include it to prevent half the first issue of a Spider-man comic not having much Spider-man in it! I understand this skips issue 16? so assuming this is printing 17 and 18?

#16 probably would have worked better if they reprinted the epilogue issue. It helps set up why The Lizard is in this story and his motivation.
Regardless, I picked up the first issue out of curiosity. Honestly, I'm saddened to see this is where the CE's are now.
I'm not a huge fan of the new design, it feels very unwelcoming.
And I get that this is an issue with having a set number of pages while reprinting other comics, but I really hate it when they split an issue in 2 just to fill up space. I feel as if the epilogue to #16 would have filled up enough space and you could have easily put in a throwaway back-uop or so
While it's necessary, I do feel as if there should be an acknowledgement that the comic has been away for a year.
I do like the comic quality however, the page quality is far superior than the US comics.
I do wonder how long these comics have left however. Even before Covid hit, the CE line was suffering. The book like quality was dropped, the page count was reduced, MWOM was cancelled at the last minute.
I think the heyday for the collector's line has come to an end, especially with not only the American comics becoming far easier to buy, but also with the introduction of places like Marvel Unlimited and comicsology.
I hope they pull back from this and find a market. Scott and Brady are great guys and it'll be a shame to lose them on the newstand.
